The Cheesemaking Process
Cheesemaking is a fairly straight forward and easy process, which is ideal for anyone looking to pick up the hobby. It all starts with the milk; generally, one gallon of milk will make about one pound of cheese. Ensuring you have milk that is of the appropriate quality is the most important thing you can do. Starter cultures are then added to the milk, along with a milk clotting enzyme called rennet, to begin forming the cheese curds. Curds are then separated from the whey. Once the whey has been removed you are left with your delicious cheese curds to do with as you please!
