Hops

Hello, I was wondering what was better for beer brewing: The hop pellets or the hop plugs? I'm looking at using both the Kent Goldings and the Fuggle hops and I was interested to see if you recommended the plugs or the pellets? Also, what does one lose, if anything, from using pellets or plugs, over...

Hydrometer

Hi,
I was just wondering if you can use a wine hydrometer for beer brewing measurements also or if you need to buy a separate beer hydrometer? I noticed you sell two different hydrometers so I wanted to be sure.
Thanks,
Steve

Period of Time in Primary Fermenter

Is it okay to leave a wine from a Vintners Reserve Wine kit in the primary fermenter for longer than the 5-7 day period that is recommended even after the specific gravity is at the right level? What happens to the wine if you leave it at this stage? Thanks for your time!

Fast secondary fermentation

We are making a merlot with one of the Vintner wine kits. We racked the wine into the carboy on Monday the 19th and decided to take a reading today the 22nd. We found the specific gravity to be .990 which seemed low after just three days. In the directions it says when the sg is .996 or less to move...

Air lock liquid leak

Howdy, In our airlock we decided to use a mixture of water and mouthwash to deaden the smell of fermentation a bit. Upon moving our Betterbottle carboy, about a teaspoon or so of mouthwash somehow went into the bottle through the airlock, don't know how. Will this little bit of mouthwash affect ferm...
