Re: over sulfated?

John, just a note to let you know, the blueberry started working. I made a wood aereator stick and put on the electric drill.I already had the heat on it and I did add more yeast. I mixed it four times befor it started to work.

John, I started a batch of blueberry wine and instead of using campden tablets I used potassium metabisulfite. I misread the instructions and put 1 1/2 tsp (1/4 tsp per gal) in a six gal batch. I will assume this killed the yeast? Wine was started Monday the 15th and there is no yeast activity yet. ...

John,I started a batch of peach wine using the recipe from winemakers recipe handbook. I added all ingredients except yeast and let sit for 24 hrs. I made a yeast starter using 1/2 cup of warm water, a squirt of lemon juice, tsp of sugar and yeast. Let this sit about 2 hrs before adding to primary. ...

Elderberry goo cleanup

I have to say that elderberry wine is my favorite. I have been making it for years and have come up with a great way to clean the sticky goo residue that it leaves. Saturate a washcloth with vegetable oil and scrub. This cuts the goo quick and easy, then wash with dishsoap. Sorry for the late reply ...
