Hops harvest

Postby dpvwia » Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:53 pm

Any advice on when to harvest these things? Also - can I harvest cones as they mature, or do I have to wait until the whole vine is ready? I have two Chinook vines, one is a little ahead of the other, but both vines have some big cones and lots of small ones.

So far, I'm just squeezing them to check for when they start to feel dry, right?

Thanks!

I wait until the cones are open, papery and you can see and smell the lupulin powder. My Cascade cones usually are ready all at the same time so the harvest is easy, but the Nugget my Dad grows for me are ready at different times so the harvest takes awhile.

I picked my Cascade three weeks ago.

I should hhave harvested a couple days ago, had a big storm roll through Cleveland and half of my trelliss came down, I found my Nugget hops in a big pile on the ground this morning while I was playing the game of "Where did the padio furnature go?" I may be able to salvage them, we will see this weekend.

OK, so then it looks like some of my Chinook are ready now, with the rest in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

Sounds good to me, be sure to dry them well or they will mold and go bad. I vacuum seal mine with my food saver
