cheese waxing

Can you wax store bought chedar cheese like from sams? If so what is the best way and how long will it last in a cool place...Thank you, there are so many different answers on the internet... I am trying to prep some long term food storage and am looking for some reliable information..thanks so much Brian

I don't see why you could not wax it. Buy cheese wax and melt it in a cheap crock pot. Then dip the cheese in very lightly and let it dry. Repeat this process 2-3 times. A few light coats are better than one heavy coat. It will likely become sharper over time but I think you could store it for 1-2 years.

Instead of using a cheap crock pot how about a small electric deep fryer? It has the temp controls and that alone makes it easier. Has anyone tried this? I am new to this and hate the double boiler method and the constant checking on the temp using a thermometer. Would a crock pot get the wax hot enough? Thanks for any advice.

The crock pot method has worked for me. I have not tried a deep fryer. It sounds like a much more expensive way to go though.
