Akron Water Profile

Postby Shawnintennessee » Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:52 pm

Does anyone here have an Akron Water Profile for use in ProMash?

I need one to get my water right for my brewing.

I figure maybe you'll have it John :)
I know you brew exclusively with Akron water.

I winged it for the 10 gallon batch of Bitter I just brewed.

Hi, Shawn. Yes, here it is. Numbers are a yearly average:

Ca- calcium- 40 ppm
Mg- magnesium- 8
Na- sodium- 36
So4- sulfate- 75
Cl- choride- 35
HC03-Bicarbonate- 130

You can call the Akron water dept if you like and ask to speak to a water chemist. They were very helpful to me. They also publish a water fact sheet once a year. It comes in the mail to all water customers. It will also have similar info to the above.

Awesome John,

Thank you so much.
It was like pulling teeth down in Tennessee.

It's great being home, Thats for sure. :)

I'll be coming in to see you once my Yorkshire Bitter is racked.
I think you will be really impressed with it.
I know you haven't tasted my All Grain beers yet. :)

I'm racking 6 gallons of California Common today as well.
Just not sure on the conditioning, First California Common. ;)

John,

I am looking forward to it too.
Been a long time since we have had a cold one together.
Reminds me of the old days on Tallmadge Ave. :)

Its been awesome stopping in and talking to your Dad again as well.
It's great to see and hear familiar faces when you've been away from home so long.

And you guys are family to me, Thats for sure.

Your buddy,

So what does this mean? Is treated Akron city water good for brewing? Or does it need additions to get the most out of it?

It is very good for brewing provided you get the chlorine out. I also recommend adding 25-50 ppm of calcium to it in the form of Gypsum or Calcium Chloride.
