Party Pig pressure pouch?

Postby beerman » Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:33 am

The 1st pint or 2 dispensed o.k.

Then the flow considerably slowed down and at the 4th pour it was only trickling out in a very small slow stream. About 8 pints total were poured at this time and the pressure pouch doesn't seem to be expanding (no popping sounds like I recall from the past). I was hoping this was some kind of a temp. differential pressure issue since the pig was probably not thoroughly chilled enough before the 1st use. After what wound up being a few weeks in the refrig. I attempted to dispense a few more pints and had the same issue.

This dark alt is a little under primed. The pig and bottles I tasted are a bit under carbonated.
I'm not sure if the priming sugar (dextrose) was off, or the 2 months in the secondary caused too much yeast to fall out of suspension.

Any suggestions?

Whether the beer is carbonated or not, the pouch should still dispense the liquid in the pig. I would try standing the pig up, opening the valve (be careful) and try repressurizing the pig with the pump. Sounds like the pouch is the problem to me. Did you shake it well? If this does not do it, here is the number for Quoin (manufacturer of the pig).

303-279-8731

They should be able to figure it out.

sorry for the problem.

Thanks John,
Yes I did shake the pouch well, pressurized with the pump, heard the pop, and bled out the excess air. All as per the Quoin website current instructions.

I was thinking, just like you mentioned, of trying to re-pressurize. The original pump I had (before ordering the replacement pump and main valve from you) sort of went bad by beer running up into the tube. The tube can't be detached from the pump bulb and was not able to be cleaned. I'm trying to avoid this with the new pump.

Repressurizing did not work too well. I had to use my older pressure pump since a small amount of foam kept coming out of the standing up pig (I didn't want the new one to get messed up, as I mentioned the tubing can't be separated from the pump for thorough cleaning). I cleaned the tip of the old hose using gin drinking alcohol that I had, since rinsing was not possible. The pouch never expanded.

However, the pressure allowed the beer to flow better a few days later when dispensed. I only have 3-4 pints or so remaining and I can just pump more air in, or fully open the pig and pour out this small amount.

Thanks anyway for your offer to contact quion.
