Twin lever Italian Corker Problem

Postby Bill Kolosi » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:32 pm

The nylon barrel has been damaged in that the exit port was slightly deformed and results in cork crumbs be created that enter the wine. The nylon barrel can easily be removed suggesting to me that it is replaceable. Is it possible to order a replacement nylon barrel from the manufacturer through you store? If not, do you have the manufacturer's contact information? Or must I purchase a whole new corker?

My guess is that you will have to purchase a new corker but I will forward the message to the importer and see if there are any parts available.

Thanks for the efforts; I will keep my fingers crossed but will not assume the manufacturer will make the part available. If a replacement corker is necessary, is there an overwhelming reason to select the adjustable depth corker vs. the fixed depth?

I don't think so. I don't have much experience with the non adjustable but we have not had any complaints about it either. I think the non adjustable would be fine.

John - thanks for all your effort. I met with Jim on Friday and we compared parts. Apparently the corker I have is over 25 years old and Ferrari has changed the design significantly. The replacement part is for their new design which does not fit snuggly into my older barrel. Also, there are no holes drilled for the two set screws that are used in my corker to hold the insert in place. Jim offerred me a replacement corker which is also adjustable and I accepted the offer.

Re: my older corker I was able to use 600 grit paper to sand down the imperfections to the point that I don't believe it will cause me any more grief. In case it does, however, i am armed with the new corker from Jim. Thanks a million!
