More fun with my party pig

Postby beerman » Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:57 am

John,
I had a party pig from some time ago that I dropped by accident and the main valve cracked with beer spaying out and a big mess etc. I ordered replacement parts for this pig to give it a try again. I ordered from you the main valve(spigot) with gasket, activation pump, and some pressure pouches. The old pump I had was not broken, but beer had gotten into the tubing that can't be separated from the bulb...so for sanitation purposes.

The first try (this time around) the pressure pouch did not work properly and after the 1st glass poured it trickled out etc. The 2nd try the pig was conditioning and burst yielding 2.5 gal. of beer all over the garage floor. Thankfully this was in the garage. I don't think this was an over priming error as I didn't exceed the recommended amount. The beer was 1 week in the primary and 1 week in the secondary. I did not check the gravity, so maybe it wasn't entirely finished fermenting? (although, the regular glass bottles turned out o.k.) The pig bottle did have a stress point in it from the bottle getting pressed while cleaning and leaving a small crease mark. This small imperfection spot may have been enough?

-I'm not certain I want to keep attempting to use this product, Do you sell a replacement bottle only?

Wow, that is a lot of problems. We have not had that many reports of problems really. We don't have the ability to purchase the bottle only. If you want to give up on it I could not blame you. I can refund your money for it. I would recommend sending an email to Quoin Industrial and see if they have had any other reports of these kind of problems. Then we could go from there.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble.

Thanks John,
This pig burst back in late June (I lost 1/2 the batch of the Australian recipe you helped me formulate).
The bottle was from my original purchase not from G & G store.
I see on the party pig website they sell just the bottle for about $10.
I could contact them, but this original purchase is from a long time ago.

Just thinking about storage and a brewing schedule. Amount of my bottles and 1/2 gal. growlers that are empty and available etc. I would really like to step up to a keg.

Kegging is a much better way to go. As long as you have an extra fridge, you can do so much more with it.

Yeah, but I don't have a fridge, space for it etc.

At some point I'd like to get a side by side refrig. set up kegerator/fermentation chamber (I think I may have mentioned this idea to you before?) I saw one on the net. It involved some electrical and getting in at points before certain components like evaporators and fans. Used some kind of love dual controller.

This combo is interesting for the economy of space and multi-function possibilities.

The side by side fridge sounds really cool. I think you did mention it once before. Let me know what you hear from Quoin.

thanks

Contacted Quoin and they asked some basic questions (directions followed etc.) They wanted to know if I could send a picture...they are offering to provide a bottle and a couple of pressure pouches should I decide to give the party pig another try. Nice, considering I never went anywhere near asking for a replacement, just described the events.
