anything to add for cloudy wine?

Postby myers14 » Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:21 am

Just finished up 2 batches (pomengrante & kiwi/pear) after the first inial racking i always wait the term, then i re-rack it and filter it! then i let it sit in there a few days in case i didnt filter out all sediment then i filter as i bottle!

my issue this time is as i rack it the second time i added sweetener (wine conditioner) to it to sweeten it up AND added some strawberry flavor to the kiwi/pear....well its been a few days and the kiwi/pear is still cloudy and as far as i can tell so is the other! i have made several batches and never ran into this before, PLEASE help!! Is there anything to add to it to clear it up?

by the way, this is my first time on this board and it's awesome....im Bob (tracy myeres' husband) mary knows us, when we are home from iowa we always bring the family in for some of the best times!!!

anyway, any info will be greatly appreciated and any help on making the wine naturally sweet with the same alcohol leval would be great too! we like ours more fruity than alcohol taste but still have a kick! this kiwi/pear batch is also the first batch i made with corn sugar (4lbs) is corn suger or regular sugar the way to go?

thanks so much for your time and hope you all had a great holiday season

You could try a fining agent (such as isinglass) and see if that helps. Also warming it up would also help it to finish out and clear. If this does not do it, the filtering will surely clear it.

I don't know any good way for a home wine maker to make the wine naturally sweet without making it fairly high in alcohol (above 14%).

Typically corn sugar will ferment faster but either table sugar or corn sugar would work fine.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

thanks
