Increasing alcohol content

Postby Allen Corbett » Sun Feb 05, 2006 7:08 am

Hi John,
I have found that using G&G kits that I am getting a alcohol content around 2-4%.
I would like to increase it to around 4-6%. I have used granulated sugar on my last two batches but it seams that the taste has been distorted because of this.
Do you have any recommendations? Also, how much to use?
I don't want to overdo it either.

Thanks, Allen

I am very suprised that you are getting such low levels of alcohol. How are you measuring it? My guess is that you are getting an inaccurate starting spec grav reading or incomplete fermentations.

If you do want to increase the alcohol content, I would recommend adding brewers corn syrup as it is all fermentable and will not add the cider flavor. Here is a link: http://www.thegrape.net/browse.cfm/4,8621.htm
