50 degrees Lovibond and contributes a complex flavor including 'sourdough', toasty, biscuity and tangy. It is used quite often in English ales.

It can impart a deep golden to brown color. For Nutbrown ales, use 5-10% of grist (about one pound in an extract batch). 2-5% of grist for dark ales and 5-10% of grist for porters.
