One pound bag of French medium plus toast oak beans. Adds a barrel aged flavor. 'StaVin' oak beans are 3/8" cubes of oak that produce superior flavors in wine. They are made with 3 year old air dried oak from the center of France and then traditionally fire toasted. Superior flavor is due to bean density which produces less phenolics and more rounded flavors. Used by many of the best wineries around the world. Use 2.5 oz per 5 gallons of wine. Recommended contact time is 8 weeks minimum and 8-10 months maximum.

Hi Freddy. In my experience the plus toast adds a more intense oak character to the wine. I would use the plus toast on only the biggest of red wines. It will impart an almost smokey character. From Stavin's website you will find this about 'plus' toast: Medium Plus Fire-Toasted French Oak (above) shows slightly heightened perceived flavors of vanillin extract, maple/brown sugar, meatiness, cinnamon/allspice, cooked fruit, coconut and overall flavor impact.
